Red Telephone Booth

Red Telephone Booths: It is so sad that they are less used and replaced by cellular phones now. It got me thinking: How important were they when cellular phones weren’t around?

red telephone

A man drives two hours each day towards his work. It was a harsh weather in the United Kingdom the past week; it rained torrentially. This man gets into his routine. He pours a bottle of milk into a bowl full of cereals, takes a bath, dresses up, and drives to work. When he got out of the door, he looks up. It’s not raining but dark clouds still cover the sky. He looks on his parkway, but can only see part of his car. Dense fog now blankets his surroundings and presumably the entire city. It did not stop him from going to work.

He drives, drives, and drives. The fog is so dense he has to turn his fog lights into its brightest. Still, it is no use. His fog lights are merely beaming on what seems to be a concrete water vapor. The next thing that happened is unexpected. A car, which appears to be running above speed limit, side sweeps this man’s car.

side sweep

The man catapults forward and hits his head on the wheel. The car that side sweeps the man’s car speeds of. The man is bleeding. He still has his consciousness. He gets out of his car, but because of the hit that made him dizzy he is walking in stumble. On the road ahead, there is nothingness. He walks ahead, but because of dizziness and his stumbling, he thinks he is seeing a ghost. A red ghost. He tries to ignore it, but realizes this is what he is looking for. Because of his car’s headlights illuminating this object’s redness amidst the dense fog, it now comes to this man that this is a red telephone booth, the thing he now desperately needs to get help from his wife. The time when all these transpired was in the 1950s.

You see, the red telephone booth. Maybe it was as important to the people of the UK as the cell phones we now have. Cries of desperate help, proud announcement of a job promotion, satirical remarks, or just simply making prank calls… all these might have been said inside the red telephone booth.

Those are what I would like to do with this blog. I want to make satirical remarks (Oh yes, my favorite), call for help if necessary, announce my achievements, or just simply to make random remarks about what interested me during the day.

This is Paolo, talking to you from inside the red telephone booth.
